USUALLY THE BIG Grafton Street singalong takes place on Christmas Eve with Bono and the lads – but yesterday something on an even grander scale took place in Dublin city centre.
For six hours straight, 17 bands in a row busked at the top of Grafton Street as part of the homeless charity Dublin Simon Community’s Music Marathon – to raise awareness and funds for homelessness.
The Strypes drew in quite the crowd

You couldn’t have been in the vicinity without wondering *what* was going on – and there were Christmas songs too

There was an arch set up beside a big Christmas tree to let everyone passing know that this marathon was for a good cause
Getting 17 bands to give their time was a testament to the strength of feeling that’s out there about homelessness – which only intensifies in the winter months
By the time 7pm came around, the final song from an epic busking session was played
Closing out the MARATHON of gigs today. Thank you to our SEVENTEEN bands. Your generosity is mind blowing. Take a bow our last band of the day @fontainesdublin @Dublin_Simon #SimonMM pic.twitter.com/y5kJrFGBqB
