7 great debates to fight over in bed

Cheese or pie? Cake or biscuit? ‘Man’ or ‘a man’?

HAVE AT IT!

Cheese or Pie?

With Ch****mas looming, Trivial Pursuit sets across the land will be dusted off for an annual festive game/inevitable fight.

But what do you call the small triangular pieces? Many people fall into one of two camps: ‘cheese’ or ‘pie’, with others opting for ‘slice’ or simply ‘triangle’.

Where do you come down on this issue?

Jaffa Cakes – cakes or biscuits?

Jaffa cakes Richard Cocks Richard Cocks

This is such a contentious one that it took a court case to settle it (although the debate still rages on in hearts and minds across the planet).

A 1991 VAT tribunal saw McVities defending their classification of Jaffa Cakes as cakes (VAT is paid on biscuits covered in chocolate, but not cakes).

Ultimately they were deemed to have enough of the characteristics of cakes to be deemed as such. An oft quoted point is:

On going stale, a Jaffa Cake goes hard like a cake rather than soft like a biscuit.

Hmmm. Alright judge, if you say so.

Toilet Paper over or under

Someone took the time to make this graphic, demonstrating why over is king:

Do you agree? Or do you even bother changing the roll you lazy article?

Top of the biscuit/bottom of the biscuit

Consider a chocolate digestive.

Now consider which side of this digestive you would call the top, and which you could call the bottom.

If you were to place the biscuit on a plate, you would almost certainly put it chocolate side up, therefore that’s the top, right?

However, there’s often writing on a digestive – does that make that the top?

Fight amongst yourselves.

One small step for man/a man?

Neil Armstrong’s first words as he stepped onto the surface of the moon have become one of the most debated quotes of all time.

If he said the quote which is usually attributed to him…

One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.

… well that just doesn’t make much sense. “For man” and “for mankind” are essentially the same thing.

If he said…

One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.

… well that’s more like it.

He has always maintained that he said “a man”.

Decide for yourself.

Pink, Purple or Yellow Snack?

This one is similar to Desert Island Discs, except it’s Desert Island Snacks.

Picture this: You’re going to be marooned on an island for an indefinite period of time. You can only take one colour of Snack with you. Choose wisely.

Gif or Gif?
