Greta Gerwig's Catholic secondary school is throwing a 'Lady Bird' themed Oscars party

They’re even going to screen some VHS tapes of Gerwig’s cringe-y old theatre productions.

IF YOU’VE SPENT even a year in an all-girls Catholic secondary school, chances are you have a wealth of material to write a book or a film. Sure, just look at Derry Girls.

To celebrate the success of Greta Gerwig’s movie Lady Bird, which stars Saoirse Ronan (for anyone living under a rock), Gerwig’s old school in Sacremento are throwing a Lady Bird themed party on the night of the Oscars.

St. Francis High School are going to air the Oscars in the school’s PE hall. Not only that, but they’ll also be screening some of Gerwig’s high school theatre produtions. Hopefully Greta Gerwig will be having too much fun at the Oscars to feel scarlet about this.

The school commented:

We found old VHS tapes of theatrical shows Greta did when she was in high school, plus a video of an Oscar party she had with friends.

Anybody attending the Oscars party will be greeted by a life-sized cutout of Greta Gerwig (from when she graduated in 2002 – this sounds like most people’s worst nightmare, tbh). There are 350 tickets on sale to the event, which cost $25 dollars each and there’ll also be contests on the night.

Chatting with the Sacramento Bee, St. Francis High School’s MaryAnne Kelly said:

We’ve never had an Oscars party. But we’ve never had an alumnus nominated for five Oscars before.

That’s a fair enough reason to celebrate.

Gerwig’s high school aren’t the only ones in Sacremento to celebrate. Club Raven, a small bar that seats about 60 people made a cameo in the movie and have since been enjoying their little bit of fame. They serve a Lady Bird cocktail which contains Tahoe Blue vodka, blackberry Torani, sweet and sour and soda.

Club Raven is one of many Sacremento businesses that have found themselves flocked with locals and visitors taking selfies with the locations because they appeared in Lady Bird.

Club Raven’s co-owner told the Sacramento Bee (it’s a newspaper, these people are not just having a chat with a famous bumblebee in Sacramento) that Greta Gerwig’s mam has paid them a visit too.

We’re so excited for Greta. I’ve never met her, but her mom came by and gave us all Lady Bird buttons. It was so cute.

On the night of the Oscars, Club Raven is likely to be jam-packed. Despite their capacity of 60 people, over 900 people have clicked ‘interested’ on their Facebook page.

Now… If only Saoirse Ronan had a local…
