A RESTAURANT OWNER from Kerry has been chosen by Jamie Oliver as one of the finalists of an international YouTube search for new TV cooking talent.
Paul Treyvaud owns a restaurant in Killarney and has been making unorthodox cooking videos and posting them to YouTube for a while now, so when Simon Cowell put out the call for new foodie talent, Paul answered.
He was singled out by Oliver as one of the four finalists, who said that he thought Treyvaud “probably cooked the best meal out of all of them”. Ultimately the outright winner was Gerard Panahon from the Philippines, who whipped up Bibingkang Especial (a type of cake).
Treyvaud began making videos in 2010 when the recession hit and he wanted to drum up some business.
He hit gold with his short film Freezing My Scallops Off, which saw him up a mountain in -10 weather, wearing shorts and cooking up a storm. The video now has more than 100,000 hits.
Treyvaud’s audition for the Fantastic Food contest saw him keeping it Kingdom, serving up potato pancakes and salmon by the shores of a Kerry lake using local ingredients.

Treyvaud is all about the freshest of ingredients and back to basics, with his tips on how to skin a deer, or how to pluck a pigeon. He even does a mean fish and chips – after harpooning his own seabass and trout off the coast of Kenmare.
