EARLIER THIS SUMMER, everyone was all about the Hun.
Now, the Instagram trendsetters in the world of hair can’t get enough of hair tapestry.
This is what it looks like
The Fashion Spot tells us what exactly hair tapestry entails:
The festival-appropriate style is achieved by weaving pieces of string into hair with the help of a loom. You can get the style with extensions or you can weave the yarn directly into your tresses.
The result is like a holiday braid, except more extreme and intricate
StyleIcons has gone into great detail to show you how you can achieve this look – and it’s not the simplest of tasks:
First separate a piece of hair about 5 to 10 centimetres wide and spray with hair spray to add grit. Next place the hair in an embroidery hoop (a tool usually used more for needlepointing than hairdressing), separate the section of hair into smaller strands and then double knot the first strand of hair in an embroidery thread.
The tutorial continues:
To complete the weaving process, use the thread and a needle to thread in an ‘over under’ method: under the second strand, over the third strand and so on. At the end of the section of hair go back in the opposite direction, in the opposite pattern to the thread you’ve just stitched above (for example, make every under an over).
As Marie Claire notes, it started off earlier in the summer in a salon in London called Bleach, and it’s spread from there.
Now the good people of Instagram are all over it
Might we see at Electric Picnic this weekend?
Surely somebody will be paying enough attention to the Instagram trends to have picked up on it.
Keep and eye out for the tapestry – the more intricate the better.
