10 things you'll remember if you were obsessed with Hairspray ten years ago
THIS MONTH MARKS ten years (!) since Hairspray hit cinemas. The musical, which was adapted from the John Waters film of the same name, was a summer sensation and went on to garner three Golden Globes nods.

And what a film it was.
1. First of all, you were intensely jealous of Nikki Blonsky for landing the lead role of Tracy Turnblad.
Blonsky was plucked from obscurity to star in a massive studio movie opposite Zac Efron. A true rags-to-riches story! If it could happen to Nikki Blonsky, maybe it could happen to me!
2. You were like, “Actually John Travolta makes a very convincing woman.”
John Travolta played Edna Turnblad, a role traditionally played by a male actor in the stage incarnation of the musical.
And boy, did he work it.

3. John Travolta and Christopher Walken were #goals.
Look at that sizzling chemistry. Sure, wouldn’t it put The Notebook to shame?

4. You knew the soundtrack backwards and forwards.
Good Morning Baltimore, I Can Hear The Bells, Welcome to the 60s and, of course, You Can’t Stop The Beat. All absolute bangers. Just listening to them made you want to unleash your Billie Barry kid.
5. In fact, your Rose of Tralee talent would be reciting all the names in The Nicest Kids in Town.

6. You found yourself wishing that there was modern-day equivalent of The Corny Collins Show.
“Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a show on RTÉ 2 where secondary school students danced and became local celebrities?”

7. And wondering why you didn’t know any lads that looked like Zac Efron?
Look at him. A regular matinée idol.

8. You were only delighted to see Amanda Bynes in it
Amanda Bynes, a true Nickelodeon icon, played Tracey’s friend Penny and was never seen without a lollipop.
9. And knew there was no truer love than that between Penny and Seaweed.
