Heartbreaking.

THE SAD NEWS came through last night that Harry, the leader of Dublin Zoo’s gorilla troop, had passed away from an unknown illness.

The “gentle and calm” gorilla was popular with Dublin Zoo staff and visitors alike.

When photographer Anthony Lynch was passing through the Phoenix Park last night, he captured a cloud meeting the sun that looked an awful lot like the outline of a gorilla kissing the Phoenix Monument.

People instantly thought it looked like Harry saying goodbye

Anthony posted the image to his Facebook page last night, saying:

I was sitting in my car waiting for the sun to set behind the Phoenix monument and looking through fb when I seen that Harry the gorilla had died after years in Dublin Zoo which I happened to be outside. Maybe I’m staring at the sun too long but does anyone else see a gorilla kissing goodbye to the phoenix park monument?

The heartwarming photo has since gone viral, with over 23,000 likes on Anthony’s Photography page and Dublin Zoo themselves have shared the image on their Facebook.

Anthony captured another shot last night as well

Gorilla mam, maybe?
