Here's what European leaders might be wearing at their 'informal' summit
EARLIER THIS MONTH, European Union president Herman Van Rompuy confirmed that European leaders would meet in Brussels for an ‘informal’ meeting today.
“The date and venue of the informal meeting of members of the European Council is confirmed (30 January 2012, Brussels) #euco,” he tweeted.
It got us thinking that given how serious and formal previous leaders’ summits have been perhaps the fact this is being described as an “informal meeting” will mean leaders can shed their suits for something a little more comfortable.
So here’s a quick look at what threads European Council leaders might show off later today*:
Angela Merkel - Germany
Borut Pahor - Slovenia
Dalia Grybauskaite - Lithuania
David Cameron - UK
Elio Di Rupo
Enda Kenny - Ireland
Helle Thorning-Schmidt - Denmark
Iveta Radicova - Slovakia
Jose Manuel Barroso - European Commission President
Mariano Rajoy - Spain
Mario Monti - Italy
Mark Rutte - Netherlands
Nicolas Sarkozy - France
Pedro Passos Coelho - Portugal
Traian Băsescu - Romania
* In all seriousness, we’d wager a large amount of money that they will actually turn up in their usual suits. Oh well…
