He's back! Rathgar tortoise returns home
A MUCH-LOVED 100-year-old family pet has returned home after escaping unexpectedly from his Dublin home over the weekend.
Florentine the tortoise disappeared from the back garden of the family home on Brighton Road, Rathgar, prompting a concerned appeal from his owners on Twitter.
The #rathgartortoise hashtag trended in Dublin as news of the his getaway spread.
Today, though, the Eogan family has some good news: Florentine has returned.
Cliona Eogan told TheJournal.ie that the tortoise came home “covered in muck”, having apparently buried himself in the garden, but otherwise in good shape.
“We’re absolutely thrilled,” she said of his return.
Eogan thanked everyone who had kept an eye out for Florentine or who spread word of their appeal for his safe return.
