LAST WEEK, PRESIDENTIAL candidate Hillary Clinton made a campaign stop at a youth and family centre in Orlando, Florida.
Clinton mingled with the supporters and delivered a speech during the campaign stop in which she praised Orlando for displaying “strength, love and kindness” following the mass shooting at Pulse nightclub earlier this year and addressed the recent fatal shootings of African-American men by police.
Yesterday a member of her campaign staff posted a photo from the rally that has since gone viral.
The photo shows supporters with their backs turned to Hillary Clinton as they take selfies with her.
Victor Ng, who works as the Design Lead with Hillary for America, shared the photo yesterday and wrote, “2016, y’all.”
The photo has people shaking their fists and crying, “The youths! Narcissism! Damn selfies!”
It’s still unclear whether the whole thing was orchestrated as a moment for supporters to take a selfie with Hillary or whether we really are that selfie-obsessed.
Photographer Barbara Kinney, who has been documenting the campaign for Clinton and took the photo, simply wrote “Wow……” when she realised the extent to which the shot had gone viral.
2016, y’all.
