Holly and Phillip interviewing a man with his sex robot on This Morning is prime awkward telly
ITV’S THIS MORNING has a long and proud history of bringing on really *interesting* guests for Holly and Phillip to chat to.
But a segment on yesterday’s show probably topped them all for sheer weirdness.
A man named Arran Lee Wright was on the couch with his sex robot Samantha – and the six minutes of telly won’t be topped on the awkwardness scale for quite some time
It began with Phillip clarifying that “we’ve turned her off, so that she doesn’t come out with anything inappropriate”
ITV ITV
Holly just about got a question out:
“Why, why… why… why… is this necessary?”

People started watching from behind the sofa when some of Samantha’s audio “lines” were played out in the studio

They included:
There were many, many awkward stares to the camera from Holly and Phillip throughout

Then Phillip got down to what he really thought with this question:
“It’s a bit like making love to a car GPS, isn’t it?”
ITV ITV
Arran then asked the presenters “Wouldn’t you agree that she’s beautiful?”
ITV ITV
Two answers came back:
There were so many shots throughout of just Samantha’s dead eyes staring straight ahead
ITV ITV
She has “special skin” that is designed to feel like human skin, too – but then it was explained that the skin is left cold even though it can be “heated up”.
The facial expressions throughout were pained

It was then revealed that Arran has two kids and that Samantha has a family mode – which means “she can talk about animals, she can talk about philosophy, she can talk about science”
ITV ITV
*all the awkward silences*
If second-hand embarrassment/cringe comedy is your thing – this is the interview for you
This is only going to end one way
It sparked a real debate about the ethics of such new technology, especially in a family environment
