Hot dogs are officially not sandwiches - and the whole of America is arguing about it

Even Presidential candidates are getting involved.

LAST WEEK IN the US saw the annual celebration that is National Sandwich Day take place.

Among the festivities and general sandwich enjoyment – one argument broke out among so many people:

The debate raged so much that the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council of the United States released a statement on the important matter:

The deep philosophical divide has played out this week following National Sandwich Day on the NBC Today Show, ESPN’s Sportscenter, in NFL locker rooms and across the internet.

They definitively said that hot dogs are NOT sandwiches:

Limiting the hot dog’s significance by saying it’s ‘just a sandwich’ is like calling the Dalai Lama ‘just a guy.

Recently in Ireland, the hot dog has become a talking point of sorts – with Dublin’s Porndog serving up fairly fancy versions

But they are a staple of many a BBQ in this country
