BALLYFIN DEMESNE IN County Laois is a glorious five star hotel at the foot of the Slieve Bloom mountains.
And yesterday Condé Nast Traveler named it Number One in its 2016 Readers’ Choice Awards for the Top 50 Hotels in the World.
It got a near perfect score out of 100
And you can see why
You can have tea in “The Gold Room”
The Awards had particular praise for the hotel’s grounds and lake:
If you’ve ever dreamed of summering at a country house, you couldn’t do much better than this stately, 20-room Georgian home, about an hour and a half north of Dublin. Beyond the regal four-poster canopy beds, gilded mirrors, and richly textured wallpapers, there are 614 acres of secluded private gardens begging to be strolled.
North of Dublin? Not exactly accurate, but we’ll let it slide.
“But the real highlight? Having a butler row you out on the lake before enjoying a sumptuous lunch at the picnic house.”
Because you have some view out on the water
The rooms are as FANCY as you’d expect too
And the rotunda is just as grand
Taking a walk around the grounds gives you sights like this
Look at the views from the rooms
