I MUST ADMIT, I’m really bad when it comes to washing my makeup brushes.
I don’t use them daily, so usually they sit around for weeks until they’re finally filthy enough to merit a scrub.
I know, gross.
But still, it’s such a stupid, thankless task.
If the makeup comes fresh from the container, and all it touches is my face, is should be grand, right? Right?
Wrong. A dermatologist told Elle.com that dirt and bacteria can easily get trapped as you layer on the makeup. This isn’t great for your skin.
Buildup of dirt and oils on your makeup brushes can cause acne breakouts and possibly rashes called dermatitis.
When Buzzfeed reached out to another dermotologist, he said we should be cleaning our brushes DAILY.
From a dermatologist’s perspective, I would like to see daily brush washing, so bugs and old make-up doesn’t accumulate.
Good god.
Of course, not everyone has the time to do this, so a spray cleanser might suffice until you give them a big weekly wash.
The effort of that though.
So, make me feel better or worse. How often to you wash your makeup brushes?
