Here's how to blag WAY bigger burritos in five simple steps

Genius at work.

NEVER LET IT be said that people don’t make sacrifices in the name of science.

Burrito lover Dylan Grosz, an intern at Apartment List, carried out an in-depth scientific experiment in order to hack the burrito chain system.

Dylan wanted to find out how he could get the most food, for the price of an average burrito.

Grosz hit up U.S. chain Chipotle to use his ‘geeky love of data’ and ‘black hole of a belly’ to order five burritos a day for 35 days. The results, were pleasing.

Methodology

After getting his burrito he weighed the ingredients out. Each time he ordered he made small adjustments to how he ordered a specific ingredient, and weighed them. He had to leave out the likes of guac and sour cream so things wouldn’t get messy.

He then developed a sound hypothesis for achieving the perfect burrito hack, finding an 86 percent improvement due to his tweaks.

The main pointers:

Order a burrito bowl instead of a burrito, as you get 15 percent more

Order a tortilla on the side if you must. Wrapping it yourself can bulk it up by 25 percent.

Tip-1 Apartmentlist Apartmentlist

Ask for both kinds of rice

They won’t give you the same amount as one scoop, and will boost rice by 93 percent.

Tip-3 Apartmentlist Apartmentlist

Getting both choices of beans will also boost bean intake by 92 percent

Black AND pinto, please.

Tip-4 Apartmentlist Apartmentlist

Meat is to be ordered half and half, giving you 54 percent more meat

Most burrito places will just charge you for the most expensive.

Tip-5 Apartmentlist Apartmentlist

Ask for the free ingredients to increase size by 15 percent

Lettuce, veggies, corn salad… get it all.

Sure, you’ll have to wrap it all up yourself, but you’ll have increased the weight of your burrito almost 2lbs. Dylan’s hacked burrito weighed 86 percent more than the control.

Well worth it. WELL worth it. Go forth and use this knowledge for the greater good.

And don’t worry about Dylan, he didn’t actually eat all those burritos.

There was no need to worry about wasting food afterwards because after I was done with the burritos I left them on the office kitchen counter and they all mysteriously disappeared within a few minutes.

Some man for one man.
