People got really annoyed at how the word 'chorizo' was pronounced on Masterchef

Spanish people have described the English pronunciation as ‘nails on a chalkboard’.

LAST NIGHT ON Masterchef, chef Shaun Rankin repeatedly pronounced chorizo, the name of everyone’s favourite Spanish sausage as ‘sho-reez-oh’, while the shows narrator pronounced it as ‘cho-reet-oh’.

Viewers were naturally furious at the inconsistency throughout the show:

The Masterchef narrator appears to be using the correct Spanish pronunciation, but Shaun’s is some kind of hybrid of the two languages.

Here we have a Spanish man comparing the way English speakers pronounce it with the correct pronunciation. Spanish speakers in the comments seem to agree that the way English speakers pronounce chorizo (as cho-reez-oh) sounds like nails on a chalkboard to them.

One Spanish speaker commented that at a deli in Sainsbury his correct Spanish pronunciation was corrected by the woman behind the counter to ‘cho-reetz-ioh’.

If you’ve been pronouncing it wrong, don’t worry. The Oxford Dictionary didn’t even know how.

So we’re wondering, how do you pronounce chorizo?
