I had a blast… but never again – Ricky Gervais
BIG MOUTH COMEDIAN Ricky Gervais has hosted his last awards show, according to his own blog.
The British writer, comedian and actor has hosted the Golden Globes for the past three years but has vowed never to do it again.
Writing on his blog, the Extras star said:
In 2011, Gervais was criticised for being too crude and many believed he would not be invited back as a host because of the jibes made against Hollywood favourites.
The award ceremony’s broadcaster NBC ran an advertising campaign ahead of last weekend’s event hinting that The Office creator would be even more scathing.
However, many said his performance was disappointing and too tame. He kept the insults to a minimum and most of the really harsh stuff was aimed towards non-movie stars such as Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber.
Colin Firth did get a ripping (about being racist, evil and punching a blind kitten!) but Gervais suggested that the audience had eventually worked out that he’s not that bad.
Gervais appeared on David Letterman’s CBS show last night to explain his reasons for taking the gig for the past three years and why he is done now:
The reference to golf in the above clip actually refers to George Clooney’s acceptance speech for his best actor gong in which he commends his…eh, successor?
