That iconic moment in I Know What You Did Last Summer was directed by a kid
TO BE FAIR, every 90s slasher flick has at least one toe-curling moment of utter cringe.
And admittedly, some are worse than others.
We mean, we thought Rose McGowan’s ‘Cut, Casper. That’s a wrap’ line in Scream was pretty mortifying until a year later we saw Jennifer Love Hewitt utter the infamous ‘What are you waiting for?’ line in I Know What You Did Last Summer.
With her arms outstretched and her friends gawping on in mortification, Jennifer’s character practically begged her homicidal stalker to do them all in, then and there.

She stomped away from her friends, shrieked the line twice, and then she spun in a little circle.
Lads, the drama of it all.
And now, 21 years later, we learn the scene was actually conceived and directed by a kid.
This explains a lot, to be fair.

Speaking to Us Weekly at the Television Critics Association press tour, Jennifer, now 39, commented on what is easily one of the most memorable scenes in the whole film.

Recalling the film’s shoot, Jennifer remembers the kid calling the shots.
As we all know, she did do it.
And, despite not knowing what ever became of the young director, Jennifer backs him on this one.
‘[It] was a great idea,” she told Us Weekly.
If you feel like a trip down memory lane, take a look at this.
