Iggy What? Lizard found in Kildare garden

The ISPCA rescued Iggy after he was discovered among the flowerbeds in Kilcock.

A RESIDENT OF Kilcock got more than she bargained for as she went to hang out her washing today, being stopped along the way by a strange sight in her flowerbeds.

A 75-cm long lizard had made its way into the garden but appeared not to be moving.

Not sure if it was a real reptile or a toy, the worried homeowner contacted the ISPCA.

Chief Inspector Conor Dowling was dispatched to the scene and found the animal was “very much the real thing”.

“There was a green iguana just sitting in the flowerbed. It was very cold by the time I arrived and hadn’t moved in some time. Iguanas are cold-blooded and cannot be active when appropriate external heat is not available.”

The lizard, subsequently called Iggy by rescuers, was quickly removed to a warm vivarium for some much needed heat. It is presumed that Iggy is a pet that escaped so anybody with information about its owner is asked to contact the ISPCA on 043 332 5035.

Dowling added: “Iggy appeared to be in good condition with healthy skin colour. If we can locate the rightful owner it should be possible to reunite them, though we may have to check on the security of the housing!”
