Watch Imelda May's amazing dance-off with a Limerick fan who has Down syndrome

The MOVES.

MAURA RYAN IS a 26-year-old from Limerick, a big Imelda May fan and a keen dancer.

She has Down syndrome, and was at the INEC Killarney on New Year’s Eve with members of her family to see the singer perform with her band.

“She’s a huge Imelda fan, for years now” her sister Caitriona Ryan told DailyEdge. The family managed to squeeze their way to the front of the gig. Maura “stood out a little bit”, Caitriona added, because she’d done her hair up like Imelda’s.

And that’s when…

We were in the second or third row, and when she saw her Imelda said, we have to find a way to get her up on stage. So three or four lads behind us volunteered to lift her up.

And then… this happened.

After a while, Imelda just stood aside and let Maura show her how it’s done.

Basically, she absolutely killed it. Here’s the full video:

Maura was “absolutely elated” afterwards, Caitriona said.

She kept saying ‘I did it, I did it’. Post show, random strangers were coming up to her saying well done and all of that.

She added: “Imelda May is such a lady and it was such lovely gesture to invite my sister on stage.”

Maura Ryan is a member of Down Syndrome Limerick.
