The 10-day festival is still going strong but there have been some memorable moments already. We have the pictures.

TENS OF THOUSANDS of people have descended on Cavan for the annual Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

The ‘craic’, ‘caint’ and ‘ceol’ have been flowing since last Saturday but there is plenty more planned for the remainder of the event, which claims to be the biggest Irish music festival in the world.

On Sunday, Le Cheile Band takes to the stage in the Imperial Gonzo Theatre with a number of traditional musicians. Impromptu sessions will also take place across the town’s pubs and streets over the weekend.

This year, organisers say their use of social media has brought the Fleadh to thousands more fans outside of Ireland.

The tradfest has gone digital and its live traditional Irish music webcast was streamed to more than 13,000 computers across 37 different countries.

According to the event’s media team, online viewers in South Korea, Kenya and Argentina posted comments and made requests. Guest lilter Séamus Fay even received two marriage proposals during the streaming.

There is also an iPhone app for visitors to stay up-to-date on news and events.

Although the music has been enjoyed all over the world, those in Cavan have been treated to massive celebrations since the festival launched on Saturday. Here’s a snapshot of what has been happening:
