In pictures: The Chelsea Flower Show

Former prizewinner Diarmuid Gavin returns to the prestigious show with a pyramid-shaped garden.

THE PRESTIGIOUS CHELSEA Flower Show is set to run until Saturday in west London.

Held annually since 1914, this year’s event features 550 exhibitors and the Great Pavilion is housing 14 different show gardens. Ticket prices for the show range from £16 to £55 and around 700,000 people are expected to visit over the five days of the show.

Irish gardener Diarmuid Gavin won the People’s Choice award last year for his elevated Irish Sky Garden entry to the flower show last year. The garden was sponsored by Fáilte Ireland and Cork City Council, who pledged €1.7m and €300,000 respectively.

This year, his entry is a multi-story pyramid garden called the Westland Magical Garden (shown in the slideshow below) and is sponsored by Westland Horticulture.

Doors open to the public tomorrow, but here’s a taste of what’s on offer:
