In pictures: Ireland's hottest day of the year
IRELAND BASKED IN scorching sunshine today, with temperatures staying above 20 degrees centigrade in many places even as the evening drew in.
Despite it being almost October, people around the country took to parks and beaches to enjoy summer’s last gasp. The mercury hit 23 in central Dublin city, and RTÉ reports that a reading of 25.5 degrees in the Phoenix Park made it the joint hottest of the year so far.
Readings also topped twenty degrees at Malin Head in Donegal and Ballyhaise in Cavan among other places, according to Met Éireann. Warm conditions are forecast to stay with us for the next two days before dropping slightly over the weekend – though rain is also forecast for tomorrow.
