Inauguration gig organisers deny kicking rapper offstage for anti-Obama rant

Lupe Fiasco was asked to leave the stage after a 30 minute anti-war performance.

THE ORGANISERS OF an event in Washington held in honour of President Barack Obama’s inauguration for second term have said that Lupe Fiasco was not kicked off stage for saying he didn’t vote for the president.

Lupe Fiasco was performing at the StartUp Rock On event at the Hamilton Live.

He was escorted from the stage after what Politico reports was a gig which saw him playing an anti-war song for half an hour. His performance included the repeated lyrics:

Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist. Gaza Strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say sh*t. That’s why I ain’t vote for him, next one either.

Attendees tweeting from the event said that the rapper was asked to move on to the next song, and when he refused he was escorted off stage.

The StartUp Rock on organisers posted an official statement online, which said:

But Lupe Fiasco was not “kicked off stage” for an “anti-Obama rant.” We are staunch supporters of free speech, and free political speech. This was not about his opinions. Instead, after a bizarrely repetitive, jarring performance that left the crowd vocally dissatisfied, organizers decided to move on to the next act.

Lupe Fiasco has previously called Obama ‘the biggest terrorist in the United States of America’ and said that he had no intention to vote in the November 2012 election because he feels that politics are meaningless.
