SOMETIMES, THE WORLD ain’t such a bad place afterall.
Hundreds of complete strangers showed up to a party for 10-year-old Mackenzie Moretter after her classmates didn’t respond to invitations. Moretter has a genetic disorder called Sotos Syndrome that delays development. She was diagnosed at one when her skull hadn’t formed completely, causing brain damage.
Her mother Jenny, disheartened by the lack of replies, took to Facebook to extend the invitation to a few local groups. She posted asking families to bring their kids to the party, and they responded in their droves.
She told CBS Minnesota:
I want so much for much for Mackenzie to belong and for her to have friends and people to accept her for who she is.
Jenny said Mackenzie is well liked, but the other kids don’t seem to socialise with her, with Mackenzie telling KSMP that ‘kids don’t want to play me’.
Well, that all changed when more than 1,000 RSVPed to the Facebook event invite Jenny set up for the locals–it got so big it had to be moved to the local park. People from all over the world also left birthday greetings on the page, sorry they couldn’t make it.
When the day finally came, over 300 showed up.
There were PLENTY of mates for Mackenzie to play with.
Not to mention presents…
Local businesses provided snacks and people brought balloons and cakes.
Elsa from Frozen even showed!
She even got her very own Frozen cake.
The Shakopee Mayor also announced that her birthday would be made the official Mackenzie Moretter Day in the city.
Mum Jenny posted to Facebook to thank everyone for making it such a special day.
I’m overwhelmed with emotions, my heart has been touched by so many stories similar to mine or just people wishing her a Happy Birthday.
Ah, happy endings.
