HURRICANE OPHELIA IS set to hit Ireland from tomorrow morning onwards – with “severe winds and stormy conditions” expected on the west coast and some counties being issued with a red warning by Met Éireann.

So, about as serious as it gets.

But, as is often the case in these situations, Irish people have been preparing for Ophelia with vigilance, common sense… and a lot of sarcasm.

1. Take this scene overheard in Dublin Airport as a perfect example

2. “Let’s just fire Ophelia into Google here and… oh my god”

3. Ophelia will get a nice tax break

4. There’s a definite sense that Ireland isn’t taking the hurricane as seriously as the US

5. Throwing cold water on any attempt to reassure people here

6. People are well prepped though

7. We need a refresher course

8. Make sure you have supplies ready

9. All advice is being taken on board

10. We do have an ace up our sleeves for these exact circumstances

11. Poor Mayo

12. A Shakespearean tragedy awaits

13. At least we have helpful US charts to fall back on

14. *Irish people prepare Father Ted memes*

A time-honoured tradition.

Stay safe, all.
