14 times Irish people refused to let Storm Desmond win

Was it for this?

STORM DESMOND HAS come and gone. It did some genuinely terrible things. And nobody enjoyed it hanging around.

But at least Ireland showed the national spirit we would expect and hope for in the face of this crisis. Like all of these times:

1. When people were SCARLET for it being called Desmond

2. When our national spirit of sarcasm remained intact at all costs

3. When our weather forecast was so brutally honest, it just showed a massive pool of water instead of Ireland

4. When gale-force winds and lashing rain STILL weren’t enough to make this man pay the €2 cloakroom charge

5. When there was a Father Ted reference for literally everything

6. When this man moved his sofa, because f*** it

“Look, I planned to do it this weekend, no point putting it off now.”

7. When ‘flooded field’ got redefined as OUTDOOR SWIMMING POOL

8. When it turned out Storm Desmond just wanted to look at the handbags all along

9. When an entire GAA pitch got flooded and the natural reaction was to make a ‘junior training’ gag

10. When our political response was swift, targeted and highly effective

11. When it turned out our litter bins were specially calibrated to cope with the storm debris

12. When we proved how much we value our heroes

13. When this donkey was rescued from the water and then took time out to WINK at the camera

14. And finally, when there was a silver lining to everything.

In your FACE, Storm Desmond.

*everyone stands for national anthem*
