Irish broadcaster breaks new ground at New York awards
FOR THE FIRST time ever, an Irish station has won the Broadcaster of the Year Award at the New York Festivals Radio Awards.
RTÉ Radio beat 182 finalists from 25 other countries to win the prestigious award at last night’s ceremony, and came away with 16 other awards.
RTÉ Radio receives about €30 from every €160 TV licence fee bought in the state.
In a statement, the broadcaster’s managing director Claire Duignan described the station’s successes last night as “a real achievement”:
Duignan added that great radio comes from “that elusive alchemy between skill, artistry and vision”.
