A Tipp woman and her American groom made an Irish slang translator for their wedding guests

He’s only coddin ye.

GETTING MARRIED TO someone who may have been brought up in a different culture can be slightly complicated.

When you bring both of the families together, so many things can get lost in translation.

When Kyle Merber from New York married Tipp girl Patricia Barry on Saturday, they made up a guide to help the guests get along

It begins…

We are hoping our friends from the USA and Ireland are getting the chance to know each other this weekend, but know there is a bit of a language barrier. Here are some translated sayings that might come in handy. To blend in around here, it might be useful to drop the H after the T!

The list goes on to translate some stock phrases from Irish to American. For example…

IRISH: What’s the craic lads, fancy a pint?
AMERICAN: What’s up bros, down for another brewski?

They are all, of course, extremely tongue-in-cheek

IRISH: Who is your one? Is she doing a line with your man?
AMERICAN: Who is that hot chick? I wonder if she is dating that dude?

But of course, there has to be a sport reference

IRISH: Up Tipp! Go on Tipp!
AMERICAN: Let’s go Yankees!
May they never misunderstand each other again.
