OTT, Six, The Carter Twins... 7 Irish pop bands that could reform

So many fists of pure emotion. And which one of them made it onto the Dawson’s Creek soundtrack?

RONAN KEATING AND Brian (not Bryan anymore) McFadden have announced they’re to tour together in some kind of an unholy union of Westlife and Boyzone.

It got us thinking about the legacy of Irish pop music and all of those bands of yore that could still come back with reunion tours. Buffalo G, we’re looking at you.

OTT

Adam, Alan, Niall and Glen. They had amazing nineties haircuts and four top 30 hits in the UK. Choosing our favourite song was a tricky one, torn between ‘Let Me In‘ (dance moves, open shirts, bare chests), ‘All Out of Love‘ (with bonus ‘frolicking in the ferns video’) and ‘Story of Love’. There could only be one winner though:

Six

“I gave the wrong date of birth”.

Nadine Coyle really wanted to be in Six. So much so that she lied about her age on telly, and it all played out on Popstars. She went on to be in Girls Aloud, which worked out alright for her in the end. She even went out with that good looking lad from Desperate Housewives.

Sinéad, Emma, Sarah, Kyle, Andy and Liam did make it into Louis Walsh’s all-Irish group though, and had number ones in Ireland and chart hits in the New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Iceland and Sweden.

Nowadays Liam is Jedward’s manager, Emma is a TV presenter and Sarah works at the BBC. Six got back together for a special reunion on the Late Late Show earlier this year marking ten years since the band was formed.

Bizarrely the video for their biggest hit There’s a Whole Lot of Loving doesn’t appear to be on the internet anywhere. Disappointing.

B*witched

B*witched made it onto the Dawson’s Creek soundtrack. That, my friends, is the big time. They boosted sales of denim goods, some of them were related to Shane from Boyzone and they performed with Britney Spears on the *NSYNC tour. There’s nothing else to say really, except here’s 1998′s ‘C’est la Vie’. You are welcome.

The Carter Twins

Identical twins Stephen and Tony burst into our lives with their cover of ‘The Twelfth of Never’, and then disappeared like a fart on the wind. We miss you The Carter Twins.

Dove

Don Ade, Hazel Kaneswaren and Graham Cruz were Dove. According to The Band List (our new favourite website) Meatloaf was a fan of Dove, and even gave a copy of their single (a cover of the Crowded House hit ‘Don’t Dream’) to Debbie Harry from Blondie. Where are they now?

Bellefire

Eamon Dunphy once called Bell X1 ‘Bellefire’ on his short-lived talk show on TV3. Morto.

Bellefire were Kelly, Tara, Cathy, Ciara and Paula (they lost a few members along the way), and they made their names with the singles ‘Perfect Bliss’ and a cover of U2′s ‘All I Want is You’.

Buffalo G

Olive and Naomi (Lynch, another sister of Shane and Westlife) were as bold as brass. Remember this song ‘We’re Really Saying Something’? You defintely do. Dustin the Turkey is in the video, as is Shane:

Honorable mentions:

  • Wonderland: Put together by Louis Walsh and Westlife’s Kian Egan after holding open auditions. Egan’s wife Jodi Albert was in the band. She was also in Hollyoaks. We’d love to know what happened to the rest of the band. Sharon, Corrina, Leigh, Kasey, reach out to us.
  • MyTown: Danny from The Script was in MyTown before he was in The Script. MyTown’s singles included ‘Body Bumpin’ and ‘Party All Night’.
