Irish teenager's doodle takes over Google homepage
AN IRISH STUDENT has seen his drawing displayed on the Google search page today after he won a competition held by the tech giant.
Sixth-year student Patrick Horan of St Munchin’s College in Limerick was among almost 2,000 pupils who entered a contest for their artwork to be the Google Doodle on the company’s Irish homepage.
He won after a public vote on the Doodle4Google site among the drawings, which were made around the theme “I wish…”
Horan said at the time that his drawing, which shows the letters of the company’s name transformed into cogs and gears, represents the mechanisms of a clock.
The ‘Google Doodle’ concept – altering the company’s logo to reflect a topical event or theme – was begun in 1998, with the first professional ‘doodler’ hired in 2000.
