THE HUMBLE CARE package is an Irish Christmas tradition for those with people out foreign – but the quality varies depending on how much effort your mam or whoever wants to actually put into it.
But this week an Irish-based company called Paddy Box is claiming to take the hassle out of the situation in the run up to Christmas. They have four versions of “The Paddy Box” that you can order to be shipped anywhere in the world:
The first is called the “Not Before your Dinner Box”
It’s simple, really. It’s packed full of the iconic names of the Irish sweet world:
Tayto Cheese and Onion Crisps 6 Pack, Cadburys Dairy Milk 4 pack, Butlers Hot Chocolate, Cadbury Purple Snack 6 pack, Cadburys Caramel 4 pack, Jacobs Mikado biscuits, Old School Sweets (Refresher Bar, Dib Dab, Chewits and Wham Bar), Jacobs Elites Tea Cakes, Cadbury Curly Wurly 4 pack, Oatfield Emerald Caramels
That’ll cost €49.95, plus a shipping fee. DailyEdge.ie put in Canada as the delivery address, and that destination comes in at an additional €9 cost, as an example. Perhaps a little steep?
Then there’s the “Go on go on Box”, which is €59.95
Perhaps a more refined effort? Less sweets, anyway. It features tea, chocolate, biscuits, a Gobshite mug, a tea towel and both the yellow and purple Snacks.
The “You’ll Never Beat The Irish Box” may as well be the contents of a suitcase belonging to the most stereotypical Irish fan of all time
The “Back in the Day Box” comes in at the €49.95 level – and it’s for the nostalgia addict in your life
There’s also a custom box option available, where you pick 10 items from the list and you’re done.
As the website explains, the idea is to take the headache of care package shopping, packaging and shipping away:
Deciding what those loved ones miss most from Ireland and trying to condense it into one box without sending the family dog was a serious task. They were driven up the walls finding time to go into different shops, comparing prices and picking the perfect care package, not to mention spending a small fortune getting the packages sent overseas.
For those yellow and purple Snack enthusiasts abroad, Christmas might just have come early.
