"Israel is the rightful winner if we see it as a circus": The Netherlands reacts to the Eurovision results
THE NETHERLANDS EUROVISION entree called Israel’s Eurovision win “sad”.
Speaking to Dutch media after the results were announced, singer Waylon said he wasn’t upset about where he placed, but said Israeli singer Netta is an embodiment of the ‘freak show’ stigma that’s often attached to Eurovision.
Israel won the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in 20 years, racking up a total of 529 points beating their nearest competitors Cyprus and Austria.
The song ‘Toy’ was performed by Netta and was one of the favourites to win from the outset.
Last year’s winner Salvador Sobral said that he hoped Israel would not win for the sake of music. Speaking to wiwibloggs, Salvador said:
Well, that must’ve been awkward.
