It’s Black Friday – so here’s some crazy videos of people shopping
KNOW WHAT TODAY is?
To be fair, you may not – unless you’re either American or else have an unhealthy interest in shopping – but today is Black Friday: the biggest shopping day of the year in the US.
Black Friday marks the start of Christmas shopping in the US. Whereas on this side of the Atlantic shops will start shilling their Christmas goods as soon as Halloween is over, American retailers wait until Thanksgiving (which was yesterday).
Many shops open early today and run sales and special offers to encourage people to buy – which is especially tough during these recessionary times.
Black Friday gets bigger every year as shops offer more and more discounts to get the customers – as you’ll see in the videos below, people are willing to go to crazy lengths to make sure they get the bargains.
And if you’re wondering what’s with the name – it’s because it’s the day when retailers hope to see their accounts move from the red into the black.
