JENNIFER LAWRENCE APPEARED on Late Night with Seth Meyers last night, in order to promote her new movie Mother! 

It was no secret that she was hungover after the New York premiere of the movie the night before. She confessed her condition to Meyers as she sipped on her hair of the dog and told him that she could no longer sit up straight.

He replied “That’s alright, you can give up, that’s fine.”

Eventually, the conversation turned to a ‘bar fight’ the actress claimed to be involved in while filming in Budapest.

Meyers questioned Lawrence about the ‘altercation’. “You got in a bar fight in Budapest? That seems like a dangerous place to get in a bar fight?”

(Firstly, really? Hungary seems dangerous? For context, Dublin has the 7th highest crime rate in Europe – and probably a lot more bar fights than the Hungarian capital – while Budapest ranks 59th for crime in Europe)

Anyway, Jennifer Lawrence just smiled and said that for the guy she fought, it was definitely a dangerous place to get into a bar fight.

Her story goes:

We were at a bar, it was beer night. We had a ton of beers. We were all drinking, I was drunk, which is rare. This one guy asked me for a selfie and I was like ‘No, thank you.’ Then he was like, ‘please, my girlfriend will never believe me’.

She said that her friend told the guy “If your girlfriend won’t believe you, then she’s not the one.” Based on this strange response, it’s safe to say they were, indeed, fairly locked. The guy didn’t take kindly to being denied a selfie.

Firstly, I want to make it very clear that I’m aware he is owed absolutely nothing from Jennifer Lawrence, or any other celebrity. They want to have lives too. Sometimes they’re up for selfies, which is cool. But sometimes they’re not, which is fair enough.

Most people would just get on with it and then go tell their friends the story of how Jennifer Lawrence wouldn’t get in a picture with them.

However, perhaps childishly, this guy responded by saying “You know what? F**k you.” to Jennifer and co.

At this point Jennifer Lawrence said that something in her just ‘snapped’.

I was like ‘Did you just say f**k you to me? DID YOU JUST SAY F**K YOU TO ME?’ and I like grabbed him and I took beers and I started dousing them all over him.

At this stage it sounds like she’s overreacting just a little. Even from her side of the story it sounds like her pals were kind of rude to him.

Of course he shouldn’t have cursed at her for turning down a photograph, but the next part of her reaction is completely excessive.

Weirdly he had a suitcase. I went straight to the bar and I was like ‘is that your shit?’ and I started pouring beers all over his suitcase and my friend Chris came up, grabbed me from behind and he goes ‘don’t waste beer!’ and I instantly relaxed. I was like, of course. What was I thinking?

Never mind the personal belongings of someone who is definitely not as wealthy as you, you’re wasting beer. You know quirky old pizza and beer loving Jennifer Lawrence.

It gets even worse and just sounds like straight up bullying towards an individual by a celebrity and her group of friends, rather than a quirky ‘cautionary tale’ as Seth Meyers puts it.

Laughing, she told Meyers:

One of my friends was in the bathroom and he came back and was like ‘Did you guys see that guy? He was all wet and crying!’

Not cool at all. A drunken ‘f**k you’ definitely doesn’t warrant having public humilation on top of having your clothes and belongings destroyed.

The only upside to this story is that at least the guy in Budapest has this video to show his girlfriend and say “remember that time I came home covered in beer and said it was Jennifer Lawrence’s fault and you didn’t believe me?”
