Jennifer Lopez is crediting her 'realness' for the noughties Juicy Couture tracksuit trend
NEXT MONDAY JENNIFER Lopez is being honoured with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards.

Never mind J-lo, that Jenny from the Block fur coat deserves its own award for staying power.
Not a nip slip in sight!
The singer is the latest artist to be recognised, joining a long list of music legends like David Bowie, Madonna and Beyoncé.
To add to the hype leading up to the MTV award ceremony, Jennifer has been giving her fans some music video trivia via her Instagram.
For example, did you know that On The Floor was the first record she put out after becoming a mama, and so because she hadn’t been in the game she was not given a lot of dolla bills to create the video.
We’ve gotten hidden insights into the mind of J-Lo – such as Y2K and the imminent world crash inspiring Jenny here too.
Existential crises always make me feel that way too, Jen, please invite me to your next rainforest rave.
But my favourite tidbit from her posts is that J-Lo’s ‘realness’ is the reason that we all became obsessed with Juicy Couture trackies!
‘All this fancy couture’?
So casual and so flippant.
Absolutely shocker!
Popstar wears tracksuits to look ‘real’ and ‘edgy’.
Some investigation has lead us to understand that Juicy Couture’s marketing strategy was the right strategy at the right time. Their price point of $200 wasn’t exactly cheap, but it wasn’t what celebs were going to be rushing out to buy when they could afford items for 10 times the price.
But the velour trackies were extremely comfy and allowed celebs to showcase their lower abdomens, which was the ‘it’ body part at the time.

There was another piece of luck that helped propel Juicy Couture from little known brand to a bankable business. During the late 90s and early 00s, celebrity-heavy weeklies began to gain huge traction in the U.S. Celebs were pictured not just at awards and glitzy events, but going for coffee or walking their dogs.
Us mere plebs were eager to copy the style of their favourite celebs living their everyday life because the average person also has to walk their dog and carry their child and we wanted to look cool whilst doing it.
