Jessica Simpson gives birth to a baby girl

The US singer gave birth to her first child in Los Angeles in the early hours of the morning. But what has she named her new daughter?

SINGER JESSICA SIMPSON has given birth to a baby girl – after what seems like the longest pregnancy ever.

The baby, named Maxwell Drew Johnson, weighed 9 lbs 13 ounces and measured 21.75 inches, according to TMZ.com.

Simpson gave birth in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Los Angeles. It is her first child with finance Eric Johnson.

A statement on the singer’s official website read:

Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby girl Maxwell Drew Johnson. We are so grateful for all the love, support and prayers we have received. This has been the greatest experience of our lives!
