IN WHAT YOU’D like to assume was a first on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host last night revealed that he did not know what the menopause was.
To be fair, we don’t imagine Jimmy expected his conversation with Viola Davis to go down that particular route, but when the father-of-four found himself wading the waters of female biology with the Oscar-winner, he decided to lay his cards on the table.
Can I tell you something? I know almost nothing about the female body. Ask my wife. I don’t know where anything goes.
Luckily enough, Viola told him he wasn’t alone in that, and he certainly wasn’t the first man to find himself a little lost in that regard.
You’re not the only one. When you talk about anything – especially dealing with menopause or breasts – men just die a slow death.
So, after being lulled into what may have been a false sense of security, Jimmy decided to go for broke.
I know this is going to sound like a very stupid question, and it is a very stupid question, especially for a man my age.
And then – in a moment that Viola is likely to remember for a long time – Jimmy revealed that despite being 51, he still hadn’t a notion what the menopause is.
What is menopause? I’ve heard of it and I know that it happens.
And it looks like that’s where Viola draws a line, staring silently at Jimmy for considerably longer than most of us would have found comfortable.
Thankfully though, she wasn’t about to leave him in the dark on this one.
You know what? Menopause is hell, Jimmy. Menopause is a dark hole, OK? That’s what menopause is, and that’s where I’m at right now.
“How long does it last?” he ventured.
You know what? Somebody needs to tell me! Because it’s lasted now for about six or seven years.
And that, everyone, is the moment Jimmy Kimmel learned all about the menopause.
