Jingle all the way: Christmas FM raises record figure for homeless
IT’S NOT JUST the bells that are jingling at Christmas FM – after the charity radio station raised a record amount of money for homeless support services while broadcasting in December.
Listeners to the station, which broadcasts exclusively Christmas-themed music, donated a total of €116,749. This will now be donated to homeless charity Focus Ireland.
In a statement, the volunteer-staffed broadcaster said it has now raised a total of almost €320,000 over its four years of operation, and it reached 60 per cent of the Irish population in 2011.
Its director Walter Hegarty said: “We are absolutely gobsmacked by the amount raised and the generosity of our listeners, they are amazing. It proves that despite the difficulties Ireland is experiencing people still love some festive cheer and are happy to help out someone in need.”
