John Legend defended himself after photo emerged of him posing with Harvey Weinstein

‘John, please explain.’

LAST WEEK JOHN Legend was lauded for appearing in Surviving R Kelly, a six-part docuseries which examines the allegations which have been levelled at Kelly over the course of his career.

John dismissed suggestions he was ‘courageous’ for participating in the series, telling Twitter followers that it was an easy decision.

To everyone telling me how courageous I am for appearing in the doc, it didn’t feel risky at all. I believe these women and don’t give a fuck about protecting a serial child rapist. Easy decision.

Earlier this week, a Twitter follower attempted to cast a shadow over John’s authenticity on the subject of sexual misconduct by sharing a photo of John and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, posing alongside Harvey Weinstein.

@johnlegend please explain?? I dont remember you publicly denouncing this man!!! @cthagod

John retweeted the post to his followers, who number in excess of 12 million, and provided an explanation for it, before asserting that the repercussions of Weinstein’s behaviour should be replicated in Kelly’s case.

“I took a photo with and worked with Harvey on several occasions before his abuse was known to me and the rest of the world” John wrote.

Since his being exposed, his company and career have rightfully been destroyed and he’s been indicted. Sounds like something that should happen to R Kelly.

“If y’all wanna cape for R and discount all these women’s stories, just say it. Don’t bring up some old pics of me and somebody else,” he added.

Let’s be realistic here, you’d be hard-pressed to find an individual of John’s status who hasn’t been photographed with Weinstein at some point over the last 30 years.

For a time, Weinstein was one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, and was photographed ad nausem at countless events with countless A-listers.

Posing for a photograph with someone while unaware of their crimes is not worthy of contempt, but attempting to belittle the efforts of someone speaking out when so many stars chose not to certainly is.
