He was detained by police after fighting with his wife.

JONATHAN RHYS MEYERS has opened up about getting detained by police last week after an incident on plane he was travelling on.

The troubled actor got into a drunken fight with his wife Mara Lane, when they were travelling from Miami to LAX. The couple’s 1 year old son, Wolf, was with them.

Speaking with Larry King, Rhys Meyers explained his side of the story:

My wife and I had been travelling since 3 o’clock in the morning from Peru back to Los Angeles. And they gave away our tickets — it was just a problem with the airline. We had our baby, who was teething at the time, and it was all kind of frustrating.

People travel with babies all the time, and don’t get arrested, so don’t know how much water it holds to blame a tired 1-year-old.

Rhys Meyers continued:

So we eventually got on the flight and my wife went to sleep and I very stupidly decided to order a drink. When my wife found that I’d ordered a drink, she got very, very angry with me because I shouldn’t drink. It doesn’t suit me and I had been sober for a long time.

At least he’s admitted his mistake here and acknowledges that drinking is not for him.

And so I felt that mistake and I got upset and I took out an e-cigarette. And the airline staff told me that I wasn’t allowed to smoke an e-cigarette so I put it away. And then I spoke to the Los Angeles police once we got there, who were incredibly kind. Incredibly understanding. I apologized for my behavior, and that’s the entire story.

Rhys Meyers used the interview with King as a chance to say sorry for his behaviour and to say that he has learnt from the experience, although it’s not the first time that he’s had a drunken incident at an airport:

It is a good opportunity to apologize to anybody who was offended that that incident happened, but I learned my lesson. As soon as I got off the airplane I went and spoke to somebody and I got back on track immediately

Glad to hear that he sought help immediately, so he can be the best version of himself for his family.
