THE ANIMAL WELFARE charity that issued an appeal this week after a dog was abandoned at a railway station – along with a suitcase of belongings – has been “overwhelmed” with offers to rehome him.
Kai the shar-pei crossbreed was discovered tied to railings at Ayr station in Scotland last week. He had with him a suitcase containing his things – a pillow, a toy, a food bowl and some food.
After the Scottish SPCA appealed for information about his abandonment, the story went viral around the globe.
The Scottish SPCA said yesterday that they had been “overwhelmed with lovely messages” for Kai. In a Facebook post, the charity added that its phone has
been ringing off the hook with offers of a new home for this adorable boy, who must be the most filmed and photographed dog in Scotland and has taken being in the media spotlight in his stride.
It said Kai was due to have an operation on his eyes, for a problem common to many shar-peis. “Otherwise he’s doing well and probably wondering what all the fuss is about!” the charity added, saying that he would be “off to his new home” in the future.
A donation page has also been set up to help pay for Kai’s operation, with close to £2,000 raised so far.
