ACTOR KATE WINSLET spoke about her admiration for director Woody Allen during an episode of the Los Angeles Times’ web series The Envelope.
Winslet, who worked with the controversial director on Wonder Wheel, praise him for the roles he writes for women.
Woody Allen is an extraordinary writer … He’s obviously known for having created extraordinary roles, very very powerful and complicated roles for women, for many many years.”
That’s all well and good. However, allegations of sexual abuse levelled against him by his daughter, Dylan Farrow continue to dog him.
Allen has always vehemently denied these accusations, which have resurfaced at a time when Hollywood is going through a major period of scrutiny in terms of how it deals with sexual abuse and harrassment.
During the episode, Kate was joined in the room by fellows actors Jessica Chastain, Margot Robbie and our own Saoirse Ronan.
Their reactions to her comments are … Telling, to say the least.
Here are the two gals HAVING NONE OF HER.
Jessica Chastain has previously said she would never work with Allen, so this side-eye isn’t exactly surprising.
Winslet was previously asked about working with Allen in the wake of the accusations levelled against him and she told the New York Times:
As the actor in [Wonder Wheel], you just have to step away and say, I don’t know anything, really, and whether any of it is true or false.
Having thought it all through, you put it to one side and just work with the person.”
Ok then.
Singer Selena Gomez was also recently criticised for dodging questions about her associations with the director.
