Katie Piper posted a poignant message on Twitter ahead of her acid attacker's release

‘I am trying to come to terms with the decision.’

IN MARCH 2008, Katie Piper was subjected to an acid attack, which rendered her blind in one eye and required extensive surgery.

The 34-year-old, who subsequently forged a career for herself in media and established the Katie Piper Foundation for burns and disfigurement victims, was targeted by a former boyfriend, Daniel Lynch.

Under Lynch’s orders, Stefan Sylvestre attacked the then 24-year-old with sulphuric acid, and was subsequently sentenced to life behind bars alongside Lynch, who received two life sentences.

However, news of Sylvestre’s imminent release has understandably left the mother-of-two shaken – something she addressed in a recent post to fans and followers on Twitter.

Katie, who is part of Strictly Come Dancing’s current line-up, has campaigned for Sylvestre to remain bars and is understandably devastated to learn that he won’t.

Hi everyone, I felt it was important to put a message out to my friends, supporters and followers. This is a really difficult time for me. I am trying to come to terms with the decision and this is something I need to deal with.

Turning her attention to her latest commitment, she added:

Over the past 2 weeks Strictly has already given me such a welcome and positive distraction from my past. Whilst there is never a good time to hear this news, I am glad I have this new journey to concentrate on.

“Thank you for your continued support. I really appreciate it,” she concluded.

Katie’s followers have been quick to offer their support in the wake of the news that Sylvestre is being released.
