AMERICAN CELEBRITY KIM Kardashian and her basketball-playing husband Kris Humphries have filed for divorce just 72 days after starring in their US$10 million wedding.

The pair announced their split today, citing “irreconcilable differences”.

“I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision,” said the reality-TV star in a statement.

I had hoped this marriage was forever but sometimes things don’t work out as planned.”

She also claimed that she remains “friends” with Humphries and that they have wished each other all the best.

According to the Los Angeles County Superior Court, there is a prenuptial agreement in place that will divide up the couple’s assets.

Kardashian is asking that both sides pay their own attorneys’ costs and that a judge terminate Humphries’ rights to spousal support.

The filing brings to an end Kardashian’s second marriage. The 31-year-old married music producer Damon Thomas in 2000 but they split in 2004.

This was Humphries’ first marriage.

The wedding day was the subject of a two-part special on E! Entertainment Television. NY Mag reports that the pair made about US$18 million off the media rights to their big day.

The American website worked out that the 72-day marriage meant the pair earned a sweet $2,314 an hour each. A fairytale wedding indeed.
