BACK IN 2004, Oprah Winfrey famously gave every single member of her studio audience a brand new car.
And last night in Ireland, The Late Late Show had a similarly generous and iconic giveaway:
A big bag of potatoes for all
People sat in stunned silence at home
While the studio audience seemed delighted
They were getting free potatoes, after all.
We might finally have hit a pinnacle of stereotype
“What a country”
In fairness, it was National Potato Day yesterday – and the stereotype is proven to be true on a regular basis
But the horror was not lost on the audience
There were hampers of crisps, too
At least some were looking at the positives in all this
While others could only think of the poor unfortunates lugging them out of Montrose
“Is there space in the boot?”
There was something called Improper Butter in the hamper too
Dublin, last night
Scenes.
