A newspaper described an Olympic gold medalist as her husband's 'pregnant wife' and people are seething

That’s not how you spell Olympic champion cyclist.

SUCCESSFUL WOMEN BEING defined by their partners or husbands is nothing new.

You can literally win a bloody Olympic medal and still be described as the “wife of a Bears’ lineman”.

(For the record, that woman’s name is Corey Cogdell-Unrein and she won a bronze medal in trap shooting at the Rio Olympics.)

Over the weekend, the Sunday Times published a photograph of cyclist and six-time Olympic gold medallist Jason Kenny sitting with “his pregnant wife Laura” at Wimbledon.

Only problem? Jason Kenny’s pregnant wife Laura is a decorated athlete in her own right. With four Olympic gold medals under her belt, the 24-year-old is the most successful female track cyclist in Olympic history and Great Britain’s most successful Olympic female athlete in any sport.

But hey, none of that matters when you’re married to an important man, does it?

As you can imagine, the photo caption has sparked anger on social media with many viewing it as yet another example of how men are defined by their accomplishments while women are often defined by their spouses.

Tip: if someone wins four Olympic gold medals, seven World Championship titles and ten European Championship titles, you best at least refer to her as a “cyclist”.
