Laura Whitmore stopped wearing dresses on nights out to avoid being 'upskirted' by paparazzi

A grim reality for women.

LAURA WHITMORE WAS on Lorraine this morning, speaking on why she wants upskirting to be banned.

‘Upskirting’ is defined as “the covert, voyeuristic photographing of a woman’s underwear up her skirt”. Legislation is being introduced in the UK this week in a bid to get offenders placed on the sex offenders’ register.

After falling victim several incidents of sexual harassment, the 33-year-old Bray native said that she became so anxious of ‘upskirting’, she stopped wearing dresses all together.

Sometimes I’m in the back of a taxi with my friend and I’ll see photographers and I’ll get out, I’m down on my knees almost.
I just don’t want them to get a picture of my pants. It’s mad.”

During one particular incident, Laura was attempting to go in to her house after going shopping.

I was outside my house, I had my dog and I had my shopping and I was trying to get out of the car and this guy took a picture up my skirt.”
It happens to school girls on buses and there’s no law … I always think it’s a control thing. A power thing. And it’s demeaning women, it’s degrading women.”

Earlier this year, Whitmore shared her experience of being sexually assaulted in a nightclub with Hot Press.
