Keep an eye on... Lewis Capaldi, the funniest musician on social media right now
IF YOU HAVEN’T already heard of Lewis Capaldi, rest assured that you’ll be hearing the name a lot more this year.
His debut album, ‘Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent’ comes out on 17 May, and he hopes that people “don’t think it’s shit”.
Right, who is he and why should I care about him though?
The 22 year-old Scottish singer began playing guitar at age nine, and shortly went on to start singing in pubs.
Last year ended up being a big year for him, when he was longlisted BBC Music’s Sound of 2018 alongisde the likes of Sigrid and Billie Eilish. VEVO also named him one of their VEVO dscvr ‘Artists To Watch 2018′ (I haven’t misspelled ‘discover’, VEVO just has notions.)
Does he owe his career to Niall Horan?
In a way, yes. That same year, Horan invited him to support him on two dates of the ‘Flicker’ tour in Scotland by sliding into his DMs no less!
“Ah no, he’s smashing,” Capaldi told JOE.ie. “Irish people and Scottish people get along very well, regardless. He’s just been fuckin’ brand new. Sometimes big singers like that might tweet about you or share one of the songs and they follow you and that’s it.
He recently did a lil’ impromptu gig in The Bleeding Horse in Dublin, after his show with Bastille was postponed when the band couldn’t make it over due to adverse weather conditions.
He’s a big fan of us, and it’s fair to say the feeling’s mutual – his upcoming show in the Olympia Theatre sold out in absolutely no time at all.
Capaldi is currently battling it out for number 1 against fellow Scot Calvin Harris with his track, ‘Someone You Loved’.
Fun fact: the video stars Peter Capaldi, who, it was recently discovered, is a long last relative of the singer.

The cherry on top though? He’s actually, legitimately gas.
Capaldi doesn’t take himself too seriously, something which many will know if you follow him on social media. He regularly takes the piss out of himself.
Prior to this year’s BRIT Awards, he filmed a rather hilarious take down on his Instagram story in which he gave out about being served dinner two hours before the awards ceremony because it eats into his drinking time. Fair, TBH.
(He also went into the “ball stench” he was suffering with, but that doesn’t sound as enticing, does it?)
His Twitter throws up a few more gems.
Here he is doing a mighty fine job of promoting his album.
Gas.
