EVEN THE MOST casual Oasis fan knows that Don’t Look Back In Anger is a ~Noel song~, in the sense that it’s one of the few Oasis songs where he sings lead vocals.
Liam Gallagher has never sang the song in public before – but that all changed last night when he finished his Glastonbury set with a rousing acappella version.
And he dedicated it to the victims of the recent Manchester and London terror attacks, as well as the Grenfell Tower tragedy
On a night where Foo Fighters headlined, Katy Perry debuted at Glasto and Jeremy Corbyn took to the Pyramid Stage, this was the most powerful performance of them all.
And it left quite an impression on those watching at home, and the Glastonbury crowd itself
Liam didn’t give away what song he was singing in his intro:
I want to dedicate this next song to all the people who were killed in the Manchester and London terror attacks and in the Grenfell Fire, so if you know the words join in
But people caught on pretty quickly
It was an emotional moment
And his “over to you” halfway into the song gave the crowd full lead vocals on the iconic track
It was, by near universal agreement, the musical moment of the weekend so far
For Oasis fans, it was just surreal
Surely Noel is grand with this one – given the moment, the dedication and the crowd involvement.
Spellbinding.
